Are All Heavy Snowstorms Called Blizzards?

A blizzard is not just a heavy snowstorm. The word “blizzard,” which is used only in the United States, refers to a snowstorm with very strong, cold winds that whip the snow into a fine white dust.

Some blizzards may bring less snow than an average snowfall.
