Are Wooden Shoes a Dutch Invention?

When you think of wooden shoes, you probably think of the Netherlands. For centuries, the Dutch have worn wooden shoes called klompen when working in the damp fields, although they would never enter a house without first removing their klompen.

But the Netherlands isn’t the only country where wooden shoes were common. For many centuries, wooden shoes called sabots, carved from a single piece of wood, were the most common type of shoe throughout Europe! And people in parts of England wore clogs, leather shoes with thick wooden soles.
