Can a Hummingbird Hum?
Yes and no. If you mean does it hum with its voice like a person, then the answer is no. But the hummingbird does produce a humming that comes from the rapid movement of its wings in the air.
Even though this bird is the smallest in the world, it can move its wings so fast that the movement cannot be detected by the human eye. So the hummingbird actually appears to be standing still as it hovers in the air above a flower.
A hummingbird beats, or flaps, its wings up to 70 times a second, or over 4,000 times a minute!
