Does The Campbell Collection of Soup Tureens At Winterthur Museum Have Any Soup?
Actually, the Campbell Museum is a fabulous collection of soup tureens.
Tureens are deep dishes in which soup is brought to the table and from which it is ladled into individual soup bowls. Some of these dishes are as old as 300 years.
The museum says that soup tureens have always been the fanciest dishes on the table, and the museum’s collection certainly is fancy.
The tureens come in the shape of chickens, cabbages, rabbits, cow heads, frogs, and fish. Besides the tureens, there are several individual soup bowls that date back almost 1,500 years.
