Crater Lake is the result of water collecting in the caldera, or crater, created by the volcanic eruption of Mount Mazama nearly 7,000 years ago.
Located in the Cascade Mountains, Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the United States, at 1,932 feet (589 m).
It is 6 miles (9.7 km) wide.
The first thing visitors notice about Crater Lake is its vivid blue color.
