How Do I Raise My Own Crickets and What Do Crickets Eat?

Crickets need to be raised really carefully.

Crickets that get loose can wreak havoc on a house, and it’s almost impossible to get rid of the infestation once it starts.

But if you have a secure area and a good aquarium with a tight mesh lid, it’s not too hard.

Put a half inch to an inch of soil on the bottom of a dry aquarium.

Spray it with water until it’s moist. Put several moist cotton balls in a corner or two.

Locate several empty paper egg cartons and lean them up against the sides so the crickets will have a place to perch.

Then put about 100 crickets in, put the lid on securely, and let them do their thing.

They will need a constant supply of fresh fruit and/or vegetables.

If you are going to use them in recipes, they’ll need clean grains like bread, cooked rice, oatmeal as well.

If you are using them as reptile food, a good enriched tropical fish food works well, as does a calcium-enriched food made especially for crickets.
