How Far Away From Jupiter Do the Moons Orbit and How Many Different Groups Of Moons Orbit Jupiter?

Jupiter’s sixteen known moons travel in three distinct groups.

The first, including the four Galilean moons, ranges from 77,000 miles (124,000 km) to over 600,000 miles (960,000 km).

The next group orbits from 6.6 million miles (10.56 million km) to almost 7.2 million miles (11.52 million km) away.

The third family of satellites is almost twice as far away from the planet as the middle group: around 13 million miles (20.8 million km) to 14 million miles (22.4 million km).
