How Far Can a Seal Swim?

in

The Alaskan seal is probably the best long-distance swimmer in the animal kingdom.

In summer, these seals raise their young on islands off the coast of Alaska. When colder weather arrives, the seals take to the water and swim to warmer seas.

They may remain in the water for eight months without once touching land, often swimming more than 6,000 miles before they return to Alaska in the late spring!

Seals can close their nostrils when underwater to prevent water from filling their lungs!
