How Many Pigs Were Used In the Movie Babe and Were the Pigs Eaten After the Movie Was Done?

There were 48 pigs that played Babe, and that was for the just the first movie, Babe.

New piglets had to be trained continuously throughout filming, because they could only be filmed while they were 16 to 18 weeks old for size reasons.

To make them all look alike, and to bring out their eyes, a makeup artist dyed their eyelashes black.

By the second movie, Babe: Pig in the City, the filmmakers used fewer piglets and less realistic-looking mechanical pig puppets do more of the work.

The filmmakers assured the public that none of the Babes would be slaughtered for ham and bacon but instead would be distributed to agricultural colleges, universities, schools, and farms to live out the 15 to 20 years of their natural life spans.
