How Much Gold Is Mined In the United States and Which States Produce the Most Gold?

Gold is still mined in the United States, in fact, the United States is a major source of gold, second in the world after South Africa.

Most gold comes from mines in Alaska and a few other western states such as the state of Nevada which has open-pit heap leach mines.

Most U.S. gold comes from just 25 mines.

In 2007 the United States produced about 240 tonnes of gold.

The United States is also in second place worldwide for copper production, after Chile.

    The state of nevada by itself is the 4th largest gold producer in the world alaska has produces quiet a bit of gold but no where near the tonage nevada has. alaska has so many mining and prospecting regulations where as nevada has the least.
