What are the odds of getting struck by lightning?

Generally, your odds are 3,000,000 to 1 that you won’t get hit by lightning. But in lightning strikes, as in real estate, location is everything.

If you’re a park ranger and spend most of your time outdoors, your odds of course will be higher than if you’re a practicing couch potato.

If you get your exercise as a golfer, your odds of being hit are substantially greater than if you’re into jazzercise. Pro golfer Lee Trevino, for instance, has been struck. As a result, when rain rolls in, Lee runs.

What was it like? According to Trevino: “There was a thunderous crack like cannon fire and suddenly I was lifted a foot and a half off the ground. ‘Damn,’ I thought to myself, ‘this is a hell of a penalty for slow play.’ ”

And another thing, lightning rarely strikes the same place twice, although it can, and has.
