What Happens to a Sailor the First Time He Crosses the Equator?
Sailors making their first trip across the equator must take part in a special rowdy “first-crossing” ritual.
An older, more experienced sailor acts the part of Neptune, King of the Sea, and directs other sailors in ceremonially dunking each of the first crossers into the water.
