What Is The Biggest Prairie Dog Town In The US?

Incredible as it may seem, there was such a town built by animals. It was in the state of Texas. The early settlers discovered this amazing place and wrote about it. It was a prairie dog town.

Prairie dogs are small rodents. They are about the size of a squirrel, but they don’t have fluffy tails. They live in burrows in the ground. Many prairie dogs build their burrows near one another.

A large collection of such burrows is called a town. The prairie dogs eat the grass and vegetable matter that surrounds the entrance to their homes, so it is easy to find a prairie dog town. You just look for an area on the grassy prairie where large patches of the vegetation have been eaten away and there are small holes in the ground.

Today, the largest prairie dog towns can be found in the Dakotas, Wyoming, and Texas.
