What is the Longest Highway in the World?

Did you know that except for a short gap in Central America, it’s possible to drive from Alaska all the way to the southern end of South America, on one road?

The Pan-American Highway, or Inter-American Highway, is the longest single road on earth. It begins in Alaska, passes through Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Central America, then down the western coast of South America, all the way to the end of Chile.

The only part of the road that is not yet constructed is a 250-mile section near the Panama-Colombia border, a region of dense swamps. When the Pan-American Highway is completed, it will stretch a total of 17,018 miles! Making it the Longest Continuous Highway in the World.
