What other books did author Alex Haley write besides Roots: The Saga of an American Family?

Alex Haley wrote the Autobiography of Malcolm X in 1965, besides Roots: The Saga of an American Family.

Malcolm X never saw the book. He was killed right before the manuscript went to press.

Other literary works by Haley include a biography of the security guard Frank Wills, who discovered the break-in at Watergate, A Different Kind of Christmas, and his last book, Queen, in 1993, completed by David Stevens.

In 1976, Haley published Roots, a novel based on his family’s history.

It is the story of Kunta Kinte, kidnapped in The Gambia in 1767 and transported to the Province of Maryland to be sold as a slave.

Haley claimed to be a seventh-shirri descendant of Kunta Kinte, and work on the novel involved ten years of research, travel and writing.

Haley died in early 1992.
