When Was Television Invented?

The Television was invented a lot earlier than you might think.

The first electrically transmitted TV pictures were the work of J.L. Baird, who built his first TV system in 1926. J.L. Baird was Scottish, and was born in Helensburgh, Scotland.

when was television invented

The first person to appear on television was a young office boy in the building where Baird worked. The lad was paid about 60 cents for his appearance!

The first broadcasting of TV pictures didn’t begin until 1935, in Germany, with American TV broadcasting following six years later, in 1941.

By 1949, there were a million TV sets in this country, and by 1959, there were 50 million. During the 1960s, color television became popular. In 1980, about half of all the sets in America were color sets.

That’s an odd question to ask. Why is anything invented? Some necessity to find out if it was possible I would suppose, after figuring out how to transmit telegraph, then sound, the next thing would logically be imagery.

The television was invented by John Baird. Moving pictures at the time sparked many people into curiosity. The first movie, Train, was just that. A train stopping at a station. Many people would jump in fright, and then applaud in amazement. The movie Hugo is very good on explaining this.

If this fact is true then a comment said in the movie “Titanic” has inaccurate information, when Jack kisses Roses hand and says I saw that in a Nickelodeon once.

haha, to think how small the original television screen is compared to the 100 inch plasma ones we have today.

@Nick Sapson: the Nickelodeon that Jack refers to in Titanic is not the TV Network. Look it up in the dictionary. A Nickelodeon was an early motion-picture theater where a film or a variety show could be seen, usually for the admission price of a nickel, hence the named NICKELodeon.

In actual fact, it was a fish that invented television.. He was swimming in the Atlantic when he thought to himself, these humans have made our sea creatures lives a misery for far too long and now i’m gonna give them something to turn their minds to mush. He has been so successful. :-)
