Where Is the World’s Largest Swamp?
The Pripet Marshes is a region of low-lying, wetland in European Russia. Its name comes from the Pripet River, which flows through the region.
This vast marshy area is the largest swamp on earth. It covers an area of some 18,100 square miles, larger than the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Delaware combined!
The Pripet Marshes region is so large that for centuries it served to isolate central Russia from the lands to the west. Even today, most roads and rail lines are routed around this huge swamp.
