Which Country Has More Sheep Than People?
In Australia, it’s easier to find a sheep than another person.
Australia had a sheep population of some 148 million in the 1980s. The human population was about 14.4 million, So there are about ten times as many sheep in Australia as there are people!
Its not surprising, then, that Australia leads the world in wool production, accounting for almost 30 percent of world supplies. Nor is it surprising that the largest sheep ranch on earth can be found in Australia.
This ranch, near Commonwealth Hill in South Australia, covers an area of 4,080 square miles, about twice the size of Delaware! The ranch is home to some 90,000 sheep, and also to thousands of kangaroos.
