Since 1948, Korea has been divided into two countries, North Korea and South Korea. Both nations have large armies. North Korea, with a population of about 17 million, has a soldier for every 30 persons.
South Korea, with a population of some 38 million, has a soldier for every 60 persons. If the armed forces of North and South Korea were combined, Korea would have an army of about 1.2 million soldiers,the fifth largest army on earth!
