Superman’s co-creator, Joe Shuster, had a crush on a girl in high school named Lois Amster, who became the inspiration for the Lois Lane character.
Although he lost that Lois, he gained another.
Joanne Carter, the woman hired to model for sketches of Lois Lane, ended up becoming Mrs. Shuster.
Lois Lane is a reporter for the Metropolis newspaper, The Daily Planet, and Siegel took her name from actress Lola Lane, who portrayed Torchy in one of the middle entries.

Shuster was the animator–Siegel was the writer. It was Siegel who married Joanne Carter, in 1948.
