The word bimbo is dismissive, and although it generally suggests a dimwitted but attractive woman, it can also be used to describe a stupid or inconsequential man.
In some circles, bimbo meant promiscuous as well as cute, and it turned up in North America during the 1920s.
The word came from within the immigrant Italian community and is a variant of bambino, meaning “baby” or “child.”
