Why Does Folklore Say That People Die In Threes and Is the Rule of Threes Statistically True?

The long discredited Rule of Threes, which says that family members or celebrities “always die in threes.”

It’s just not true.

Death folklore is not usually accurate, but it’s easy to understand the appeal: folklore is one of the ways people make sense out of something that seems senseless and scary.

However, the folklore itself is often confusing.

For example, it’s said that a person who wears the clothes of the dead will be unlucky, yet it’s also said that a dead person’s clothes must never be thrown away, they must be worn out by others to give eternal peace.
